"NOMAD English Learning Software" FAQ |
Q: I am not able to do recording, why?
A:
1) Please check the connection of your Microphone, Headset (or Speaker) to your Sound Card. If you are using Desktop PC, at the back of the CPU, you should be able to see some Connectors:
- Headset or Speaker Connector usually is Green color. You should be able to recognize it as Speaker / Out /

- Microphone Connector usually is Red or Pink colorcolor. You should be able to recognize it as MIC / MIC_IN /

If you are using Notebook or Laptop, usually the Connectors are located at the 2 sides of the computer. Headset or Speaker Connector usually is Green color. Microphone Connector usually is Red or Pink color.
Note:Some of the Sound Card will mark Headset Connector and Microphone Connector as same color.
2) Please ensure the volume control on the Headset (with Microphone feather) is already open. Please adjust the volume to the suitable position.
3) Please ensure "Recording and Microphone" option in your computer¡¯s volume control is selected. For example in Windows 98, Right-Click on the icon shown below on your system tray:
- Right-Click on this icon

- Select "Open Volume Controls"

- Select "Options" > "Properties"
|

- Select "Recording" and tick the "Microphone" box Then click "OK"

- Adjust the Microphone volume
and unclick "Mute" |

4) Please ensure your Sound Card is properly installed without causing any conflict with other computer accessories.
Q: I have already checked all the settings mentioned in the previous question, but I still cannot do recording. Why?
A:
There is a lot of Multimedia Application in the market. For example: RealOne Player from RealNetworks. This application will try to change your computer recording settings to their default settings. It may cause the recording process failed. Please close all these kind of application before recording.
Q: How to improve the result of recording?
A:
Open Volume Control, there is one "Advanced" option under "Microphone" volume adjustment. Please click on it and disable the item displayed under "Others" (Boost Effect)

Q: When I playback, I feel my voice is very soft after recording. Does it affect my result?
A:
Please try to speak louder and closer towards the Microphone. Or you can increase the Microphone volume. So you are able to hear your own voice clearly. However, ¡°NOMAD English Learning Software¡± uses the advanced technology, so the volume of the recorded voice will not affect the result.
Q: How to hear my own voice while recording?
A:
Please unclick the "Mute" option under "Microphone", "Volume Control". (Or you can refer to the first question, 3rd point)
Q: Sometimes I cannot hear the last word I recorded. Does it affect my result?
A:
No, It will not affect your result. Software will adjust the time frame by itself.
Q: Why I always cannot pass the test or get a very low result even when I passed?
A:
This software is to take your voice, convert into Wave Chart, compare with original standard voice, and then generate the result that determine whether you pass or not. It takes the way you speak, pronunciation and speed into consideration. In order to get the higher result; you need to simulate to the original voice as close as possible.
Q: Why I cannot use some of the functions with "NOMAD English Learning Software" Standard Edition?
A:
Because "NOMAD English Learning Software" Standard Edition does not include Creative Digital SMART Device. Adjustable playing speed and Wave chart comparison functions in "NOMAD English Learning Software" need the support of:

Creative Digital SMART Device

MediaSource application provided by Creative Digital SMART Device or PlayCenter application provided by Creative Technology Ltd
If you want to use Adjustable playing speed and Wave chart comparison functions, you need to have the above 3 type of support, which is available if you purchase it with Creative Digital SMART Device.
